Oxenham offering Mock Interviews for those impacted by COVID-19

If you or someone you know has been impacted by COVID-19 and is preparing to interview or just trying to stay sharp, the Oxenham Group will be conducting 15-minute mock Zoom interviews every Friday. Regardless of profession, the team will use behavioral questions to get people thinking about ways to articulate their inherent skills and professional aptitude. Participants can expect a zoom interview focused on improving confidence and working out the kinks and interview jitters.

Through May 4th, 60+ interviews have been conducted and we have noticed three common areas for people interviewing to be mindful of:

  1. Have a clear and concise narrative. (what would make someone stay engaged with you at a cocktail party?)

  2. Brevity is key. Over-articulation may be perceived as a lack of self-awareness

  3. Be interested, in order to be interesting (tap into lifelong learned social cues)

When asked about the program, Oxenham Recruiter, John Glynn, replied: “It is our small way to give back and make a positive impact during this really difficult time. It also keeps us fresh and introduces us to talented professionals”

Below are some additional thoughts on the similarities between interviewing and stand-up comedy by Managing Partner, Bill McGuckin:

What do interviewing and stand-up comedy have in common
? Reps. Even the most prolific comics can be spotted in the clubs testing material and working out kinks.

If you are preparing to interview, commit to finding creative ways to get your reps. Practice in the mirror, with a friend or in your car. Work out the kinks, clearly articulate your inherent worth and aptitude and land that gig!
